28 Aug '06 - 21:00 It's Only Rock 'n Roll .....

Sorry, still doing boring stuff like buying furniture and carpets and kitchen-stuff for this apartment of mine. I also need some blinds. As someone who was never really interested in any of this stuff I have to say that I'm shocked at what all this stuff costs. If it weren't for my parents providing me with the basic living-things I'd be eating dry bread and crackers all day. I'd also be curious what all of this would cost if my dad wasn't doing all the major work. Thanks dad.
On another note, I'm now officially a manager of a rock-band. Anyone know a Rockband Management for Dummies type of book? Anyone want to book a rockabilly band? Anyone?

Eh sorry, niks interessants gebeurd hier. Oh ja, heb een nieuwe toiletpot gekocht. There's always a first for everything. Verder maakt mijn gloedjenieuwe bankkaart overuren. Over twee dagen weekend ....

Anyone asking me in the beginning of this year what my plans were, I can tell you, I would not come up with this. I had planned to stay in England for at least 2006 and see a bit more of the country before returning to Holland.
Instead I'm a decadent home-owner in Holland and there is a chance I will become a manager of a rockabilly band. I'm not kidding either, it was kind-of asked. They either meant it or they were very, very drunk.
I was at the rehearsals yesterday of a band called Sonic Graveyard and anyone who plays Ask of The Smiths in a rockabilly version has me in his or her pocket. I thoroughly enjoyed last evening especially because these people are good. They can play. And they can actually play together. Like really good. They have bass, they have guitar, they have drums and they have singers.
Great band. I'll see if I can list some future performances.

San Francisco
Not having a major metropolis round the corner anymore (like in my case London) does begin to sting a bit. And it's not just the little things like not being able to shop on a sunday. Or monday-morning for that matter. Watch street-life proper and have this 24-hour world at your service. I'm not saying that this is good but it certainly makes it a bit more interesting.
Holland doesn't really have a major city. They're all just villages. Amsterdam thinks it's a major world city and it comes close, but compared to London it's really just a town.
What do I want to say? I don't know, perhaps I want to be where it happens without actually having to participate. Where other people already do stuff and you just watch or be entertained. Adjusting to living in a place where you yourself have to make it happen. So perhaps what I'm trying to say is I should get off my lazy butt. I let you know once I've found out ...

Now let me see, what is the main aim of terrorism in the West? Is it killing people? Hmmm, not really, although it's necessary every now and then. But no, I would say it's terrorising people, making them paranoia and scared. Making them look over their shoulder and keep them from their day-to-day things. Have an impact in their daily routine. So if we look at this, who are the real terrorrists? I would say ... the UK and US Governments! What a good job they do! They are having a field day.
The real terrorist must feel ashamed of what a good job those Governments do. And it's all publicised so we all know about it and we get more scared. Don't we have have Secret Services to deal with this? Do we need to know all? What good is it that we do know? Why do we give those terror-people exactly what they want and even more than that? It seems that especially the so-called English-Speaking-Nations (© Margaret Thatcher) are totally obsessed by it. Scared of the big-wide non-English speaking world. Security yes, but discretely please and don't divert flights for every wishy-washy thingy (what's the use anyway?).

13 Aug '06 - 21:03 It's Raining Balloons

Avontuur over, koffie koud.

So there's panic in the streets of London and panic in the streets of Birmingham. You'd better not mess about with the security services in the UK because they will hit you hard. No messing about with jail or any other means of torture, no! They do the almost ultimate, they freeze your assets! So if you are a male you'd better watch out. Considering the average age of those concerned I doubt it will be very cold. At least the security forces foiled ze plot although sometimes they get it slightly wrong. I wonder if these people get proscecuted though ...
As an alternative means of punishment I would suggest letting them loose on places like Heathrow now with a big sign round their neck saying: "Hi there, I caused your delay".

Life sometimes comes up with interesting choices. Like this one:
You gotta let me know; should I paint or should I go ... Esta indecision me molesta.

Having a new job kind of has it drawbacks. Especially if they are real jobs like this one. Where you cannot work inbetween surf-sessions because you can only go to certain sites. And they are the boring ones like www.telefoongids.nl or similar less funky, less entertaining sites. But the biggest problem is time. I mean, you don't even get the time to do stuff like that. Would you believe I now have to read the newspaper in my own time ... at home! And coffee is free but the machine is always broken. What's the world coming to?

Yes, yes yes. As Neel so elegantly put it, I'm not actually seeing much of the world these days besides my own street. Hence I give you this little treat, which is actually a different street. A street not actually that far away from mine. Because today there are a few more people in town than the usual odd three or four you normally see wandering about. Today is one of the four so-called Aalten-Dagen. A day of rejoicing, community-spirit, getting to know ones neighbour .... well ... er .... drinking that is.
Not that in this part of Holland, you need any particular excuses.
My photosafaris are not as frequent anymore as they used to be which is a shame, but I'm sure I'll be back to my old level soon again to bore you with some more photos. Perhaps of some cows, another Dutch street, clogs, Dutch persons being Dutch, who knows! Bet you can't wait.
02 Aug '06 - 21:41 Eins, Zwei .... Polizei ?

German police in the streets of the quaint Dutch town of Aalten. Reminds me of a quote from the film 'The Longest Day', where a British paratrooper lands in a courtyard full of German officers. When a German officer asks "Ja, wass machen Sie denn hier" (what are you doing here), the paratrooper answers: "awfully sorry old chap, simply landed here by accident" ...
