Wij staan heden stil bij het heengaan van een vriend, of meer, een constante metgezel in ons bureaucratische leven: het sociaal-fiscale nummer. Sofietje was onze fiscale barcode, ons niet uitwisbare overheids-tattoo. Sofi is na een vrij kort ziekbed toch vrij plotseling heengegaan en zal node worden gemist. Haar taken zullen vanaf heden worden overgenomen door BSN, het Burger Service Nummer. Pasgeborenen zullen dit nummer middels en kleine chip achter hun oor krijgen geïmplanteerd. Sofi is in besloten kring gearchiveerd.

Uitspraak in de zaak LAKS vs Politie
Vast staat, dat er bij de scholierenprotesten van 23 november 2007 door de Politie stevig is opgetreden. Vooral in Middelburg verdient dit zeker geen schoonheidsprijs. Dit zal intern bij de Politie zeker tot consequenties moeten leiden voor betrokkenen. Vast staat echter ook dat betrokken scholieren weigerden een politiebevel op te volgen. Hoezeer dit ook het ego krenkt, een politiebevel dient te worden opgevolgd. De politie was derhalve in haar recht op te treden met wapenstok, vordering wordt derhalve afgewezen.
Bij deze zaak plaats ik echter nog een kanttekening. Daar het LAKS dit protest zelf heeft geïnitieerd en zich nu opwerpt als verantwoordelijke voor de in hun ogen mishandelde scholieren, zijn zij bij deze ook aansprakelijk voor de excessen van deze scholieren, die tijdens dit protest hebben plaatsgevonden. Het LAKS zal in deze aansprakelijk kunnen worden gesteld voor eventuele schade die er is ontstaan als gevolg van dit protest.
Dit is mijn uitspraak, en wat u ermee doet moet u zelf maar weten.

Het zijn heuglijke momenten, als de Civilisatie aan je deur klopt. Je voelde je als Aaltenaar heel wat toen daar een vestiging van de Hema open ging. Dat was wat destijds.
Nu als Aaltense ex-pat in Doetinchem mag ik het weer meemaken, want "wij" hebben een V&D (filmpje)... oh zo. Maar wel een marketing blunder van die V&D man in't filmpje; hij wil Huls "doen verbleken". Vind ik dom. Stadse arrogantie blieven wi'j neet in de Achterhook. Positief aan Huls refereren zou marketing-technisch veel beter zijn geweest, maar daarentegen komen de schaapjes toch wel in de kerk.

It's official. The Scottish political elite and those who believe in The Lost Cause have gone completely bonkers. They want Scotland to become independent. They want to turn Scotland from a small nation with a big influence in world-affairs into a great nation with next to no influence in world-affairs. Scotland somehow feels they're very important. As part of the UK, this might be true, partly through a large Scottish presence in UK-Parliament (even the PM is Scottish). But what will Scotland be as an independent nation? Well, they will be ... Holland! To be precise, with 5 million people, they will be 30% of Holland. Situated at the edge of Europe. Small fish, peanuts, Fringe-people.
I've lived in Scotland. I like the place. But I've become very critical of them. The Scots can be annoyingly chauvinistic. I'm 100% convinced this is because of their inferiority-complex towards the English, which takes pathetic forms sometimes. And it is stupid. The English are a 50 million people proper sized country. Comparing it with Scotland is comparing apples with strawberries. I never understood this 'anger'. History is no excuse, it's 2007. Grow up. The Scots hammer on about the 'achievements' Scots made in history and therefore feel important, but forget they could make these achievements because there was a place called London where these Scots could showcase these achievements.
Scotland is no Sweden, Denmark or Norway. Scotland is not a little rich country with a high standard of living. Nor will they be in the foreseeable future. I've seen a level of desperation, blandness and destitution I've sofar never seen anywhere else. Independence will make this worse, because companies will move. My former employer IBM only stayed in Scotland because of LARGE subsidies. Where will an independent Scotland get the money from? Oil? That will run out and only benefit a small number of people; then what? Tourism? Kilt-making?
Alex Salmond says: "We also need to control the economy, our voice in the world and energy policy." Forget it, as a small fringe-nation you have no control over your economy however hard you try, your voice is so tiny no-one can hear you and your energy policy is also beyond your own control. Look at Holland, three times the size of Scotland, always at the forefront and eager to please but when push comes to shove, the larger countries push Holland aside. As part of the EU, an independent Scotland will sit at the childrens-table. But they don't seem to realise that.
The Scots never had it so good with so much influence ... in the Union.

In de categorie grappige weetjes. Sprak vandaag met twee Zweedse expats. Dacht dat die toch wel wat gewend waren. Maar beiden zeggen unaniem; in Nederlandse huizen krijgt men naast 1 koekje bij de koffie ook een koud neusje! In Zweden stookt men de keet gewoon warm. In Nederland doen we het termostaatje blijkbaar liever niet boven standje 18 graden. En zelfs de Zweden wisten me precies te vertellen waarom. Dat hoef ik verder niet in te vullen toch? Juist ja. Stelletje krenten.

Zo af en toe bemoei ik me eens graag met blog cat-fights. Niets leuker dan Jolo vs GS. Het zit Francisco van Jole blijkbaar nogal hoog, dat akkefietje met Geenstijl dat ikzelf al helemaal was vergeten. Het moment dat 'ie zich even liet gaan, correct en doorgeargumenteerd als hij is. Zo dwars zelfs, dat hij er nu op TV op terug komt. Hij moest daarvoor wel eerst even wachten op Sarkozy zodat 'ie een opzetje had. Hij probeert nu het ultieme publieke-opinie flip-flop-moment te creëren; door het nu zelf op TV te laten zien en het in een leuk collompie te gieten, dit zwakte momentje uitwissen. Neutraliseren. Om zich zodoende toch de morele winnaar te mogen noemen.
Zelfs een blog-kneus als ik doorzie dit plannetje. Ik heb zelf te lang in Engeland gezeten om te weten wie deze meneer eigenlijk is, maar hij schijnt veel vant Internet te weten enzo. In die zin is zijn blog ronduit teleurstellend, je mag niet eens argumenteren, sorry, reageren. GS is onderhoudender en scherper, zolang je maar gepaste afstand houd en veel zout voorhanden hebt.
2525-meneer; accepteer toch dat je dit vingertje-akkefietje gewoon verloren hebt. Dan win je pas echt.
