Looking over the wide plains and seeing the herdes of wildebeasts moving past, it's difficult to imagine you are in Doetinchem, mighty capital of the Achterhoek. Yet, this seeming tranquility is beautifully matched by the urban sprawl and metropolitan flair this city has to offer. I stayed at the Doetinchem Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, a hotel beautifully located with both lovely seaviews, view over Mount Fuji and all shopping you can imagine conveniently close. A hotel well suited for budget-travellers. Dining in Doetinchem is a pleasure with a particular taste for BBQ (due to the constant temperature of 28C all year round). A new twist has been added to the new Olympic sport that was announced here earlier. Deciding the steeple chase element wasn't enough, the IOC now decided to include a hide-and-seek element to the new Torch Relay Steeple Chase. A new world-record was set in San Francisco right away; the Torch disappeared for at least an hour before it re-emerged. Trust the Americans to get this record first!

Vandaag heb ik even handjes geschud met Peter Faber. Niet dat dit op zich bijzonder is, hij doet dit bij iedereen die de voorstelling binnenloopt. Nice touch. Peter Faber is bij mij uiteraard onsterfelijk als de onvoermoeibare John Gisberts uit Schatjes! en het feit dat hij de vader speelde van Akkemay (whatever happened to her). Mannen van mijn leeftijd weten wel wie Akkemay is. Maarre, ik ging dus vanavond naar de voorstelling om de man te zien en het is inderdaad een genot om zo'n verteldier aan het werk te zien. Als iemand zo innemend kan vertellen gaat zo'n avond zo voorbij. Zoals altijd, je moet de recencies maar lezen, daar doe ik niet aan, rest mij allen dit van harte aan te raden.
Wat ik wel een grappige ontwikkeling vind (maar ik ben geen theater-expert) zijn al die vraag- en antwoordsessies. Bij Carice was dit al zo (zij het niet met Carice) en ook bij deze voorstelling was er na afloop een vraag- en antwoordsessie. Dit blijf ik toch raar vinden. Wat vraag je dan? "Het telefoonnummer van Akkemay" ging door m'n hoofd, maar die vraag leek me te banaal. Zo heel wijfelend komen er dan zo een paar vraagjes maar het lijkt me zo genant. Wat nou als niemand een vraag stelt, toch een risico dat zo'n artiest loopt. Het zal je maar gebeuren in Doe-tin-chem. "Waarom maak je geen films meer" werd er gevraagd. "Omdat ze m'n kop nu wel gezien hebben" was het antwoord.
Gelukkig verliep die vraag-antwoord fase goed en was Faber erg uitgebreid in z'n antwoorden. Qua energie verslaat deze krasse bijna 65-er met gemak zo ongeveer iedereen. Het was indrukwekkend zo iemand aan het werk te zien.
