People in this silly little country simply do not understand Python-humor. For instance, there are people in Holland now who want to start a TV-channel made for .... animals. Yes, really. Honestly. The TV-channel will be aptly called Piep!
And no, this is no joke. It is actually very true. It is TV for animals. Not about; for.
I can only say to these people: IT WAS A JOKE! Monty Python simply made a sketch to make people laugh; it's not actually real! But they cannot be convinced. They even made a flashy website to get members (you need a certain amount of members to be able to broadcast in Holland).
As I can't win with these people, here's the news for Gibbons then ...

There is turmoil and panic in the streets of Tel Aviv, Israel. For over 43 years, Beatle-haters of all nationalities and ages have felt safe in the Beatle-free safe-haven of Israel. A Paradise on Earth for all Rolling Stones fans. No Beatles around! But alas, these days are over. The State of Israel has finally bowed to Beatle-extremists and allowed the music, and even a real Beatle, to enter the country. Many fear this is the beginning of the end.
"After accomplishing the mission of rehabilitating Israel's problematic image in the world, the Foreign Ministry has now found the time to deal with the real important issue: Extending an official apology to The Beatles, 43 years after the British band was banned from performing in the Jewish state."
Only time will tell the deep and severe impact this will have on the youth of Israel.

Fantastische TV zojuist bij NOVA. Rita Verdonk hits the self destruct button; krijgt het ene na het andere bewijs voorgeschoteld dat ze lid was van de PSP en toch gewoon glashard blijven ontkennen. Tja, dan zou ik inderdaad zoals op onderstaande foto ook knap krom kijken.

Als voormalig dienstplichtige zakt hier werkelijk mijn broek van af; onze Minister van Defensie heeft 'een probleem met gezag' en heeft daarom slinks zijn dienstplicht weten uit af te stellen. Meneer was zogenaamd onmisbaar als fractie-assistentje -lees- had goeie connecties onder z'n plicht uit te komen. Da's tot daar aan toe, maar hoe kun je het jezelf dan uitleggen Minister van Defensie te worden. En daar moeten we de oorlog mee winnen!
Het is werkelijk van de zotte wat voor gespuis er tegenswoordig in die Tweede Kamer zit. Ze kunnen het beter de Tweede Vergaarbak noemen.

Zojuist op het 18:00 journaal een heerlijk voorbeeldje "hoe de oude media de nieuwe niet meer kan bijhouden" gezien. Er werd zowaar bericht over een blogoorlog tussen Geenstijl, Sargasso en nog zo'n blog. Da's toch allang Schnee von Gestern? Mijne hemel, is in Internet-tijd alweer jaaaaaren oud. De vijandelijkheden zullen nog wel even door-emmeren (Sargasso weer plat 18:19 uur bv.), maar verder is het niet al te boeiend meer. Kinderen moet je soms gewoon even laten spelen.
Overigens zal Minispace in deze een strikte neutraliteit beachten (mij kun je namelijk al met 100 hits Ddossen ...).

Dankzij mijn nieuwe oude TV-kanaal Sjennel 4 kwam ik stomtoevallig dit piepjonge bandje tegen. Twee zussen en een broer uit London, 15, 17 en 19 jaar oud naar ik meen. Dus die maak ik nu maar gewoon even tot tip van de week. Mede omdat ik door deze jongens een beetje het 40's/50's rock/rockabilly/enzoverder gebeuren ben ingerommeld. Spelen kunnen ze, deze pubers. Gaat dat zien en luisteren. Onderstaande is niet eens echt representatief voor ze, maar klinkt gewoon erg lekker.

It's hard to imagine how it used to be in the old days. Me, small town provicial boy, studying in Haarlem and going to the (to me) big metropolis of Amsterdam. By train ofcourse, because by car is far too dangerous with all these mad city drivers about. So you get out of the train, into the beautiful central hall in Amsterdam Central Station and from there, onto the square in front of it. And straight into life, because the square is full of streetperformers, lost tourists, commuters, freaks and such. Very lively and a great first taste of Amsterdam.
I left the Netherlands in 1998, returned in 2006 and hadn't really been back to Amsterdam until then and hardly recognised the place. Central Station has been a building pit for years now, the central hall and square in front are no more, it's ugly, it's nasty and it seems to be a re-occuring trend in Holland these days. Arnhem is suffering the same fate. A station that has been a mess for years, and will be for years to come.
Over-ambitious politicians who want big things. In Arnhem, they want to build a super-high-design stationfabuloso in a provincial town. New York will be impressed I'm sure. In the meantime, us poor trainusers have to walk for miles just to get anywhere near a train and as a result miss them frequently. And as a frequent Arnhem-station user, I have to endure this to at least 2011.
As for Amsterdam; the city-council must surely be on magic mushrooms. They want to build an Undergound there. Yes, you read this correctly; Underground. Amsterdam is built on marshland and most houses (as any tourist-brochure will tell you) are built on wooden poles. So what happens; shit happens! Houses subside. What a suprise. What is going on?

I'm sure it will be even more historically accurate, tense and gripping, full of drama and emotion and showing the futility and horror of war ... U900! Will I last the first 5 minutes?

Vandaag heb ik voor het eerst in lange tijd weer eens mijn 'Bloggers I've met' linklijst uitgebreid. Daar was de afgelopen dorre jaren wat de klad in gekomen. Bert de Bruin, alhier op het interweb te vinden, deed vandaag een 'Holland-tour' en vereerde ook mij met een bezoek. Hij heeft zojuist een boek uit en is mede ter promotie daarvan in Nederland. Ik kom nu toch alweer een jaar of twee op z'n blog en volg het met veel interesse. En dan is het natuurlijk leuk om iemand ook daadwerkelijk eens te ontmoeten. Eigenlijk is dat het enige echte voordeel van al dat geblog; je komt op deze manier gewoon interessante mensen tegen (als je er open voor staat uiteraard).
10:20 Sjennel 4
Een beetje UK-nostalgie is teruggekeerd. Op mijn TV dan welteverstaan. Ik kan per dit weekend Channel 4, E4 en More 4 ontvangen. Eindelijk free-to-air. Nog leuker is het om te zien dat er in die, intussen alweer meer dan twee jaar, vrij weinig is veranderd. Ze zenden nog steeds Time Team en Scrapheap Challenge uit. En dat in marathon uitzendingen. Heerlijk .... voor op een luie zondag. Maar aan elk voordeel zit een nadeel; ook de UK-versie van Big Brother zenden ze uit. Helaas heb ik er wel Film4 voor moeten opgeven. Geen idee hoe dat zit. Ze hebben een soort van zender-swap gedaan, plotsklapsboems had ik Channel 4 ipv Film 4 .. eh, slaapt u al?

Ah well, every once in a while I just can't say 'no'. Only the third wedding I've ever done, it will never be my speciality or special interest but hey ... some wedding couples are simply willing to take risks ;)
