22 Jul '06 - Melting Pot
What is the most popular conversation subject in Holland? The same as everywhere else, it's the weather. From early June onwards it's been sweltering hot in Yerp. Although today was quite comical. A nice little thunderstorm hit our beloved little town drenching anybody and everything. Including the cat. He was hiding in the undergrowth and someone didn't know that. And when we had to empty a bucket, we also had one totally soaked cat. All quite amusing were it not for the fact I had left the attick-window open and my bed is underneath ...
And what else is new? Remember the licence-plate saga? Well .... I've made it. The licence has been granted and the paperwork will be sent to me shortly (which is Civil Service speak for next month). Fortunately I already know the licence-number so I can get Dutch insurance. Which is nice as my UK-insurance was getting dodgy with them not wanting to insure me 'n stuff because I'm not a UK-resident anymore. Next week, the UK-plates will come off and there will be a short ceremony. I've invited the UK-Ambassador and the UK-plates will come off whilst 'God Save The Queen' is played (Sex Pistols version).
To finish it all off, all hurdles have been taken for the appartment so after signing the contract I will start doing DIY-stuff and bother you with this on this here blog. Bought a couch today "'n all" (that's 3 years Dartford for you). This also brings to an end a few very bad stress weeks featuring severe moodswings; getting used to all the changes in my life, the foreign adventure being over, getting settled into a new job; it wasn't all that easy. So there's a tunnel somewhere and light is showing ...
